MORNIGN SUN — Philip Leroy Delzell, age 82, of Morning Sun, died Thursday, April 12, 2018, at his home. The son of Lawrence "Tut" and Verlee Hamilton Delzell, he was born on June 4, 1935, in Morning Sun. Phil graduated from Morning Sun High School and Greer Automotive Tech in Chicago. He married Joan Bonar and they later divorced. Phil married LuJean Lamp Hafner.
With his brothers, they started Delzell Bros. Chrysler Dealership in Morning Sun in 1964. At that time, there had only been two Chrysler products in Louisa County. The Delzell Bros. Dealership has grown to a substantial business, serving a large area around Morning Sun.
His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Phil's family includes his wife, Jean; four sons, Monte and Becky, Kent and Sheila, Kirk and Vicki, and Mark; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Tayler, Joe, Jordan, Lauren, Jessica, Matt, and Travis; four great-grandchildren, Monroe, Willa, Emme, and Roy; two brothers, Craig and Judy and Roger; a sister, Darla and Richard Lane; and several extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Ian.
The family will have a private gathering and graveside service at the Elmwood Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life for family, friends, and customers will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at the Delzell Bros. Dealership.
