WILTON, Iowa — Ila M. Nieman, 95, of Wilton, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Medical City Hospital of North Richland Hills, Texas.
Ila was born in Hanks, North Dakota, on June 10, 1922, to Emil and Mabel Huseby Sorenson. She graduated from Hanks High School in 1940 and State Teachers College, Minot.
Ila retired from Eastern Iowa Light and Power in Wilton. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. She loved music and playing the piano.
Ila married Rev. John B. Nieman on August 19, 1945, in Sidney, Montana. He died on February 26, 1967.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church in Wilton. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. at the church prior to the beginning of the service.
A private burial service will take place at Pineview Cemetery, Delaware, Iowa, for the family.
Ila is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Ruth (Dr. William) Grimes of North Richland Hills, Texas; her sons, Rev. John (Suzanne) Nieman of Decatur, Georgia, David (Sue) Nieman of Battlefield, Missouri, and Daniel (Michelle) Nieman of Merrillville, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Paul Nieman; two grandsons; and two brothers, Chester and Merlin Sorenson.
