Anyone looking to take their New Year’s health and lifestyle resolutions from the fringes to heart, Fringe Salon and Brow Bar is offering a free health and wellness open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The event at 1514 Isett Ave. in Muscatine, will feature a number of businesses with information and samples to explain their products and services in helping people strive towards their own self-improvement goals.

“We’ll be open three years in April and I was thinking about events we could have leading up to that, and I thought that this would be the time to start doing it with the holidays coming up and people maybe not eating the best and maybe looking to start up a fitness plan going into the new year,” said Vanessa Rangel, owner of Fringe. “I know first-hand how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle, especially if you’ve got a busy life with work and family. But it’s important not just to start it but to keep it going, and that’s what this fair will help people do in a lot of different ways.”

A variety of guests will speak about health and wellness and offer tips on beginning and maintaining better lifestyles. Those on the docket include representatives from RMT fitness, Wester Drug, Butcher's Vegetables and Unity Health.

“They’re all very into health, but in different ways,” Rangel said, in offering why she chose to partner with that array. “RMT goes from beginners to advanced fitness. With Butcher’s, they’re very concerned with what you’re putting into your body and how you feed it. Wester Drug is more medicinal. And Unity Health is involved in all different ways with people’s lives. I just thought it was a good group and they’re all people I know and trust will do a good job.”

Rangel knows this time of year finds many people searching for revitalizing health options, but she’s modest regarding potential turnout.

“Even if we get 20 people, I’ll be happy,” she said. “Of course, I’d love to get more, we’d love to get as many people as possible, because it’s free and we think people will get a lot out of it. Health is really important to people, to feel good overall, not just for yourself but for your time with your family too.”
