“Wedding Belles” will ring in the year as the first production of 2018 for the Pearl City Players Theatrical Society, with shows Jan. 12-14 in the Bob Roach Little Theatre at the Muscatine Community College. A fried chicken dinner begins pre-show at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the play following. A matinee with no pre-show meal takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Reservations are required for Friday and Saturday and can be ordered by calling (563) 265-5347. Tickets for Friday or Saturday are $25 for adults and $20 for students. Tickets will be available at the door or reservations for Sunday and are $10 for adults and $5 for students.

“We’re happy to present this show, we think people will really like it and be amused by it,” said Matt Moody of Pearl City. “I decided to direct this one because it was a little outside my Shakespeare comfort zone. It is being performed by some terrific local educators and performers and is a very funny and poignant show.”

Written by Alan Bailey and Ronnie Claire Edwards, “Wedding Belles” involves four garden-club women who meet a young girl who has come to their little Texas town to marry an infantryman before he ships off for World War II. The women impulsively decide to throw the girl an elaborate wedding, and their lives and friendships are thrown into turmoil as they race to accomplish the nuptials in one frenzied afternoon.

The Pearl City Players production includes Judy Wilson as Laura Lee, Lori Shield as Bobrita, Ruth Crowell as Glendine, Pam Cantrell as Violet, and Lauren Moody as Ima Jean. The production is directed by Moody and produced by Bill Turner.
