WAPELLO, Iowa — A Wapello woman has been arrested and charged in alleged connection with the second burning of a Minion, a character from the film "Despicable Me," dressed as a hay bale in downtown Wapello.

Nikki Marie Hardin, 32, was arrested and charged with third-degree arson, an aggravated misdemeanor, in alleged connection with a fire that was started in the evening hours of Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Hardin was arrested on Friday, Nov. 18, according to the arrest report.

According to a press release from the Wapello Police Department, the Minion was on fire when it was pushed into the street by a local citizen passing by, which saved the city light pole it was near from being damaged.

The fire was extinguished by the Wapello Fire Department.

Hardin is set to appear at 9 a.m., Nov. 23, in Louisa County District Court, according to online court records.

Also on Nov. 15, Emmanuel Nunez Diaz, 21, of Wapello, was arrested in alleged connection with a fire that destroyed a hay bale clothed as a Minion, in the early morning hours on Oct. 27.

In addition to destroying the hay bale Minion, the fire also damaged a city light pole, according to the press release.

Nunez Diaz has been charged with second-degree arson, a class C felony, and third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to online court records, Nunez Diaz has entered a plea of not guilty and his arraignment has been set for 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2.
