DES MOINES, Iowa — Below are local and area results from the Iowa State Fair. Additional results will be run as they become available.

Ayrshire Dairy Cattle

4-H Showmanship Competition

Awards were given to the top 4-H exhibitors of beef, sheep and swine. Youth demonstrated their ability to present their livestock in the show ring and answered any questions the judge asked about their animals.

  • Beef— Reserve Champion, grades 7-8, Gracie Danner, West Liberty
  • Swine — Reserve Champion, grades 5-6, Kabe Boysen, Morning Sun; Reserve Champion, grades 7-8, Koby Boysen, Morning Sun; Champion, grades 9-12, Kale Boysen, Morning Sun

Sale of Champions

The Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement raised $342,600 for the 16 exhibitors of 4-H and FFA Grand and Reserve Champions in the Sale of Champions on Aug. 17, at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. Area sellers included (animal, exhibitor, price, buyers):

  • Grand Champion FFA Market Hog — Jake Keppy of Durant, $30,000; Hy-Vee, The Maschhoffs, Custom Precast Co., Crown Prairie LLC, and ADM Alliance Nutrition/ ShowTec, with support from Wayne Huinker, Madden Ag Services, Hunt’s Crop Insurance, and $17, 525 local support/residents of Durant.

Sheep shearing competition

  • Junior— Shearing, third Eli Joslyn, Muscatine; Best Pen, third Eli Joslyn, Muscatine; Fastest Time, second, Eli Joslyn, Muscatine
