I have a question. How do you pick the right nursing home for your loved one? After seeing the news I guess it is really important that we know the difference between nursing homes, skilled nursing, assisted living and retirement communities. I never realized there were so many options.

The day came and my daughter and I had to make a decision on a nursing home. We looked and we looked and finally went to All American Care, at the time Muscatine Care. I liked the rooms there so we picked that home. Another reason we chose them is that my husband knew some people there.

Then the facility got new owners.I was worried but soon discovered that the owners are wonderful people who are caring and compassionate. It takes really special people to run a nursing home well, and they do.

Another thing I discovered is the difference in attitude between certified nursing assistants(CNAs). I think anyone going into this field should think seriously about this profession because it is a hard job. You have to really like seniors because they are the people you are working for. My husband has two CNAs and a shower aide who are great.

When you are out trying to find a place for your loved one, remember to ask a lot of questions and find caring people.
