CENTERVILLE, Iowa – Muscatine Community College’s baseball team gained its first conference win of the year, taking a 2-0 victory over Indian Hills on Wednesday in its opener.
The Cardinals’ Michael Allen also earned his second win of the year, throwing a two-hitter against the Warriors.
MCC allowed no earned runs in the doubleheader, but Brody McDonald was the tough-luck loser in the second game, 3-1.
“Brody didn’t deserve to lose,” MCC coach Dave Barb said. “We didn’t give up an earned run all day.
“We struck out way too many times – eight times in both games. We’re not putting the ball in play like we should.”
McDonald gave up three runs on three hits and the defense committed four errors behind him – three in the third frame when Indian Hills scored all of its runs.
Both of MCC’s runs in the opener came in the fifth as Trever Black doubled, Brady Grell walked, Lucas Simpson singled and Allen helped out his cause with an RBI single. Another run for the Cardinals was unearned.
MCC (4-24, 1-7 ICCAC) travels to Southwestern for four games this weekend. The series begins Saturday at 1 p.m.
