GALESBURG, Ill. — Everything came together just right for the Muscatine Community College baseball team on Wednesday.
The Cardinals put together 16 hits and took advantage of numerous errors by Carl Sandburg College in a 13-4 romp over the Chargers in Galesburg.
Braxton Bainbridge earned the pitching victory with six innings on the mound before yielding to Vince O'Meara for three innings of relief.
"It was a good day," Barb said. "We hit the ball pretty well. ... Bainbridge did a nice job and O'Meara came in for three good innings."
MCC (23-27) scored three runs in the first inning and Barb noted the Chargers would have allowed more if not for turning a comebacker to the mound into a 1-2-3 double play.
The Cardinals added five runs in the sixth inning to open up an insurmountable 10-1 lead.
Next up for MCC is a four-game homestand on Saturday and Sunday against Iowa Western, a team that the Cardinals will open Region XI tournament play against next week.
