AUBURNDALE, Fla. — One earned run was all the Muscatine Community College baseball team gave up in its first game with Prairie State College Friday.

It proved to be one too many as the Cardinals made eight errors and lost 5-4 in eight innings at the RussMatt Baseball 2014 Central Florida Invitational.

"That tells you the story right there," MCC coach Dave Barb said about the errors.

MCC sophomore Jake Redlinger has a three-run homer run in the second inning to give the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. MCC, though, couldn't hold on, finishing with 14 strikeouts.

Tanner Butler relieved for MCC in the seventh inning and was handed the loss.

In Game 2, the Cardinals (8-8) got on the board in the first inning, scored another in the third and two in the fourth for a 4-0 win.

T.J. Rausch had two RBIs for MCC and pitcher Gavin Colllins got the complete-game shutout win with seven strikeouts.

"We were very good defensively in the second game," Barb said.

MCC will play against Burlington County College and another against Worcester State College Saturday in Auburndale.
