WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa — The Muscatine Community College softball team lost its opener Friday at the Region XI softball tournament at Southeastern Community College, but it bounced back with a win in its second to move on to Day 2.

Iowa Western beat the Cardinals 7-5 in their opener, sending MCC to an elimination game against Southeastern. The Cardinals took care of the Blackhawks 8-0 in five innings to move on.

MCC will play Marshalltown in an elimination game at 11 a.m., with the winner moving on to play the loser of Indian Hills and Iowa Western.

Earlier Friday, the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference released its all-region teams, with two MCC players earning selection.

Sophomores Anna Wetherell and DeAysha Walker were first-team all-region choices.

Wetherell hit .315 during conference play and led the ICCAC Division I in hits and runs, while Walker hit .349 in conference play and slugged four home runs.
