Western Illinois sophomore Rachel Beatty was named the Summit League softball player of the week after a big weekend at the plate in helping the Leathernecks to a conference sweep of Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne.
The 2014 Muscatine graduate hit .444 in the three games with Fort Wayne, hitting two home runs and driving in nine runs.
Beatty is hitting .286 in her sophomore season with Western Illinois (16-31, 9-8 Summit), with 34 hits, nine doubles and a team-best six home runs.
She is second with 22 RBIs for the Leathernecks, who clinched the No. 3 seed in this week's Summit League tournament. Western Illinois opens the tournament Wednesday against IUPUI in Fargo, North Dakota.
