Isaac Ales and Griffin Gaeta, both former teammates at Muscatine and on the University of Northern Iowa football team, were honored with academic awards as part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Honor Roll.

Ales, who wrapped up his senior season with the Panthers last fall, received the President Council's Academic Excellence Award. Both Ales and Gaeta, in his junior year of eligibility with the Panthers, earned the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and Honor Roll distinctions.

The President Council's Academic Excellence Award is for students with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, a minimum of two years participation in athletics and the student-athlete must be within 18 hours of graduation. UNI's Robert Rathje, Jacob Rathmacher and Karter Schult joined Ales in earning this award.

The Commissioner's award is for student-athletes with a 3.2 GPA in the previous two semesters, excluding freshmen. The Honor Roll is for MVFC athletes with a minimum 3.0 GPA in the Fall 2015 semester with a minimum enrollment of 12 semester hours.
