Although Muscatine wrestling coach Joe Kane would have liked to turn some of his semifinal appearances into championship appearances, he was thrilled with the way his five semifinalists finished out the tournament.

Four of those five wrestlers won their semifinal matches, two by pin, and the Muskies secured seventh place at the Bob Murphy Invitational.

"I was pleased with the finish to our day," Kane said. "We had a really strong consolation semis found to put five in the third place match."

Both Gavyn Ashley and Nolan Bell continued their strong seasons as they both secured third place finishes with pins, while Carter Oldfield and Dalton Sell each won by decision in the semifinals.

Although he was the lone fourth place finisher of the bunch, Kane said Brennan Broders may have been the biggest positive of the day in going 3-2.

"I think it was a breakout performance for Brennan Broders," Kane said. "He solidified himself as a true varsity wrestler."
