Wilton survived two tight matches to make a finals appearance in the River Valley Conference to meet up with Camanche in the finals. Wilton beat Camanche in five sets earlier this season, but fell in straight sets in the championship match, 25-20, 25-17 Thursday night.
In order to make it that far, Wilton (32-5) had to escape close three set matches against Bellevue in the quarterfinals, 14-21, 21-15, 15-13, and Tipton in the semifinals, 25-22, 8-25, 15-8.
"We really battled against some really quality teams and played some of our best volleyball," Wilton coach Brenda Grunder said. "I couldn't be more proud."
Durant (13-20) was dispatched in straight sets, 21-12, 21-6, by Tipton in the quarterfinals. West Liberty, meanwhile, lost to Iowa City Regina in the quarterfinals in three sets. The Comets (20-13) have now lost six of their last seven matches.
All three teams now look to postseason play next week. Durant will travel to Wapello Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Wilton will play host to the winner of that match Monday Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, West Liberty will play host to Solon Wednesday at 7 p.m.
"We're right where we want to be," Grunder said.
