Susan Orvis thought that Friday's road matchup against unbeaten Pleasant Valley would be tough, and the Muscatine girls basketball coach was proven right as the Spartans blitzed the Muskies 61-24. The loss dropped Muscatine to 5-8 on the season and 4-7 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference.
"I think the one thing we want to see is consistency in some of the details," Orvis said. "To bust a zone the recognition and execution has to be quick, and I think we're still working to build a rhythm with that."
Pleasant Valley's (13-0) Ellie Spelhaug outscored Muscatine by herself, as she poured in 25 points. Meanwhile, the Muskies struggled to find any sort of rhythm against the Spartans zone and only made eight shots in the game.
"We have to grind out possessions and be a little tougher with the basketball," Orvis said. "I think that's the missing element for us getting over the top in some of the closer and more competitive games, which is the rest of the league."
