The Muscatine boys swimming team picked up its first dual win of the season, defeating Burlington 91-79. 

Wade Whiteside recorded a pair wins in the 200 freestyle (1:59.71) and the 500 free (5:32.03). Ryan Boeding picked up a win in the 200 individual medley (2:11.01), Isaac Heth won the 50 free (23.49), John Wieskamp won the 100 butterfly (58.97) and Daylon Shelangoski won the 100 backstroke (59.72).

A Muskie 4x400 relay team consisting of Gabe Bender, Boeding, Wieskamp and Shelangoski closed the meet with a first-place finish in 3:36.20. 

"It was back and forth through the entire evening," Muscatine coach Judd Anderson said. "Everybody was really excited, a lot of close races. We had some good times, some good performances."

Muscatine will compete again Saturday at the Davenport West Invitational. 

Boys basketball

Wilton 52, Columbus Community 50: Garrett Bohnsack hit a buzzer-beater in the fourth quarter to lead the Beavers to their first win of the season. 

Jared Townsend led Wilton in scoring with 17 points, while Chase Miller added 15, and the Beavers overcame a one-point deficit at the half to down the Wildcats in their home opener and improve to 1-1. 

Columbus had three players score in double digits, with Tommy Pretz and Eric Valdez finishing with 12 points and Abel Mena 11. 

Wilton will play again tonight at home against Cascade. 

Columbus will have a handful of days off before playing at Winfield-Mount Union on Tuesday. 

Girls basketball

Wilton 64, Columbus 22: The Beavers are off to their best start in over a decade. 

For the first time in the past 10 years, the Wilton girls basketball team improved to 3-0 after a drubbing at home over the Wildcats. 

Wilton jumped ahead early with a 26-4 lead after the first quarter and never trailed in rout to their biggest margin of victory this season. 

The Beavers will play again tonight against Cascade. 

Columbus won't play again until Tuesday at Winfield-Mount Union. 

Wrestling

Wilton, West Liberty impress: The Comets and Beavers both picked up impressive wins in their second meets of the season Thursday evening. 

Wilton defeated Camanche 49-29 before handling North Cedar 54-21. 

West Liberty picked up a 64-9 win over West Branch, 64-20 win over Cascade and 78-0 win over Durant.
