PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Iowa — Donald H. Cawiezell, 95, of Pleasant Prairie, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019, at his home.
Donald was born in Pleasant Prairie on July 16, 1923, to Arthur and Ora (Welsch) Cawiezell.
Don graduated from Muscatine High School in 1942. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In 2017, he was inducted into France's Legion of Honor.
Don married Eunice H. Altmann on November 27, 1955, in Pleasant Prairie.
He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1980 after 38 years of service and farmed in Muscatine County.
He was a member of the Walcott Community Club, Blue Grass American Legion Post #711, where he served as the Chaplain for 35 years, and the 500 Club. He was a member and past president of the Durant Senior Citizens. He enjoyed playing cards.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, from 2-5 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Parr Cemetery, Muscatine County, with military honors conducted by the Blue Grass American Legion.
Don is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Eunice; their sons, William (Jill) Cawiezell of New Era, Robert (Jill) Cawiezell of Pleasant Prairie and John (Samantha Solomon) Cawiezell of Muscatine; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl and George Cawiezell; niece, Sharon Morgan; and nephew, Norman Cawiezell.
