Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre closes its performing season with "Uncle Rabbit’s Adventures" ("Las Aventuras de Tio Conejo"), an English/Spanish show with live music performed by Eulenspiegel's Monica Leo and guest puppeteer Eli Portugal from Jalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
Performances will be 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Owl Glass Puppetry Center, 319 N. Calhoun, West Liberty.
Portugal, co-founder of Mojiganga Arte Escenico, wrote, designed and constructed this show in collaboration with Leo. They have performed it in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri and at Jazzfest in New Orleans.
The show combines two trickster tales into one, celebrating the victory of the small but clever rabbit over his larger, wealthier and more powerful adversary. "Tops and Bottoms," an international tale, combines with "The Goat in the Garden," from Puerto Rico, using large hand puppets, rod puppets and props to tell the story of a wealthy land-owning goat who doesn't want to share with his neighbors.
The story will be presented bilingually with live music including guitar, xylophone and singing.
Tickets are $5. Groups of 10 or more who reserve tickets in advance will pay $4 each.
