A Muscatine man pleaded guilty to willful injury in connection to the March 8, 2017, assault of a victim in Muscatine.
Ronald Vester Johnson, 40, was initially arrested in Illinois after the incident.
According to a news release form County Attorney Alan Ostergren, the Muscatine Police Department investigated Ronald Johnson and his brother, Patrick Johnson. They found that Patrick Johnson stabbed an individual in front of the AmericInn Hotel in Muscatine. The victim was wounded in the upper chest and has since recovered. Ronald Johnson's participation was limited to kicking the victim during the attack.
Johnson's brother, Patrick Johnson, pleaded guilty in connection with the incident and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment. Ronald Johnson was unable to be prosecuted in Iowa until his Illinois charges were resolved.
A sentencing hearing will be held for Ronald Johnson at 9 a.m. August 24, 2018. He will remain in custody pending sentencing, from which he will be transported back to the Illinois Department of Corrections to complete his sentence.
