BLUE GRASS, Iowa - Kay L. Rooff-Steffen, 60, of Blue Grass, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Kay was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on April 3, 1957 to James L."Pat" and Ramona E. (Kammerdiner) Rooff.
Kay graduated from Waterloo West High School, the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Spanish and the University of Iowa with a Master's Degree in Journalism. She married Don L. Steffen on October 20, 1979 in Waterloo.
Kay was department chair of the humanities department and professor at Muscatine Community College for 30 years.
She enjoyed writing, singing and was a talented musician. She loved to travel all over the world and also enjoyed dancing and attending concerts. She loved her canine companion Boots. Above all, she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them, especially playing board games.
At Kay's request, no visitation or service will be held.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Steeplegate Inn, 100 W. 76th St., Davenport, Iowa, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Kay is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Don, daughter Amie Steffen of Waterloo, son Travis Steffen of San Francisco, California, her mother Ramona Rooff of Waterloo, brothers: Jim (Tracy) Rooff of Evansdale and Mike (Nancy) Rooff of Waterloo and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and brother Gary Rooff.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The V Foundation for cancer research.
