FORT ATKINSON, Wis. — Shirley M. Sehnert, 94, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, passed away on January 1, 2018, at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek due to CHF.
Shirley was born in Chicago on November 21, 1923, to the late Harry and Harriet Statton. She grew up in Homewood, Illinois.
After earning a degree in physical therapy from the University of Iowa, she enlisted in the Navy in April 1945. She was commissioned as an ensign in the Waves. While in service she met and married Army Corporal Paul L. Sehnert on April 27, 1946. After active service they began civilian life and careers, living briefly in St. Louis, Montpelier, Ohio, and La Grange, Illinois, but for most of their lives they lived in Muscatine, Iowa.
Shirley was a stay-at-home wife and mother to two sons. With her husband, she had an active social life, liked playing golf and was an avid (and good) bridge player.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul of 56 years, and sisters, Elaine Kilgore and Harriet Tracy.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Jr. (Cathy) of Lake Leelanau, Michigan, and Thomas (Patty) of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin; grandchildren, David (Abby) and Scott (Beth); step-grandchildren, Evan and Troy Hartman; and great-grandchildren, Ben, Maggie, Leland and Lyla.
A family burial service will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muscatine at a later date.
