MUSCATINE, Iowa - A former Muscatine High School paraeducator charged with sexual abuse was free on bond Wednesday morning following his initial court appearance.

Family members posted the $1,500 for Brandon Reimers, officials said.

Muscatine County Magistrate Judge Neva Rettig Baker told Remiers, 27, he cannot leave the community and set his preliminary hearing for 9 a.m. Friday, June 3.

According to Muscatine County Court records, Reimers "engaged in a pattern or practice and scheme of conduct to engage in sexual conduct with a student."

Reimers performed a sex act on a 15-year-old in December in Muscatine, court records state, and used his position of authority to coerce that person to submit to the sex act.

Reimers is listed in the MHS parent-teacher handbook as the assistant director for the Encore Show Choir.

Superintendent Bill Decker said Reimers was fired Monday by the Muscatine Community School District.

Reimers is charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony; sexual exploitation by a school employee, a class D felony; and providing alcohol to a minor, a serious misdemeanor.

The case was investigated by the Muscatine Police Department.
