SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends come to the stage at Muscatine High School when the drama and music departments present The SpongeBob Musical on April 22-24, 2021, at the Muscatine High School theater, 2705 Cedar St.

Shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. each day, with a 2 p.m. matinee added on Saturday, April 24. Both in-person and streamed versions of the show are available. Tickets cost $10 and $8 for the evening in-person performances ($8 and $7 for the matinee performance) and $15 for streaming devices, and tickets can be purchased online at

The musical is directed by Rene Mauck. Jeff Heid is musical director, and Teale Burford and Jonathan Ryan are vocal directors.

Micah Smith is featured in the role of SpongeBob SquarePants, with Ana Poffenbaugh portraying Sandy Cheeks, Gabe Salazar playing the role of Patrick Star, CJ Gibson as Sheldon J. Plankton, Meagan Gray as Karen the Computer, John Awbrey as Squidward Q. Tentacles, Lars Scholze as Eugene H. Krabs, Bayley Hawkins as Pearl Krabs, Mallory Reed as Patchy Pirate and Evan Maynard in dual roles as Perch Perkins and French Narrator.

Chace Bassett plays Old Man Jenkins, Holly Hilbrant is Mrs. Puff, Caylie McConnaha is Mayor, Caden Roberts is Larry the Lobster and Jon Hight and Logan Rinnert are Security Guards.

Kate Eads, a member of the pit orchestra, also serves as the Foley artist, providing the sound effects.

Reed also serves as a member of the band Electric Skate, along with Parker Ellsworth, DJ Keck and Keira Kreuzenstein.

Katharina Scholze, Luda Engel, Ruthellen Brooks, Alexis Taylor and Reese Stephens are the Sardines. Skyler Rice is Mob Fish, with Nathan Bovenkamp as Fish 1 and Lydia Poffenbaugh as Fish 2, Matthew Richardson as Bartender and Rebekah McNeely as a member of the ensemble, which also includes most of the other cast members.

The show has special choreography by Muscatine High alumnus Ben Rivera, who currently is performing on Broadway in the cast of Moulin Rouge. Featured dancers are Maria Villatoro, Jayden Dillie, Elaine Yearington, Darby Lake Laura Comstock and Lauren Wetzel.

Making up the pit orchestra are Andrew Kundel (reed 1), Katie Clove (reed 2), Branson Benson (trumpet), Kim Frisbie (trombone), Lucas Zaehringer (keyboard 1), Shelby O'Brien (keyboard 2), Jon Thoma (guitar 1), Scott Mauck (guitar 2), Eads (percussion and Foley Artist), Tyler Gordon (drums), Taylor Stogdill (violin 1), Lauren Audas (violin 2), Zane Brockert (viola), Hannah Pautz (cello), Kristen Schlawin (string bass) and Brissa Echevarria (electric bass).

Nevaeh Davidson is stage manager; Adeline Hilger, Ella Foor, Kiera Lick and Michael Spies are the stage crew, with Spies doubling as Gary Puppet; Sam Maynard and Nate Beatty take care of the lights; Nyle Brooks, Carter Awfrey and Kealy Nienhaus are in charge of sound; and Karen West handles makeup.
