WILTON — Donna Ruth Birkhofer, 92, of Wilton, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 10, 2020, at Leland Smith Assisted Living in Wilton.
Donna was born in Wilton on February 23, 1927, to Herman and Mildred (Ringgenberg) Thurston. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1945 and attended AIC in Davenport. Donna married Donald A. Birkhofer on June 30, 1946, in Wilton. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2006.
Donna was a mail clerk for the Wilton Post Office, retiring after 25 years of service.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wilton and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #584. She served on the boards of Wilton Sunset Housing, the Wilton Pool, and the Wilton/Durant Food Pantry.
She never met a stranger and was well known as "Grandma Donnie" or "Donna B". She enjoyed traveling, reading, swimming, and dancing. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and attending their events.
Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilton. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Amber Owens of Wilton; sons, Dean (Jean) Birkhofer of Davenport and Dr. Dewey (Jan) Birkhofer of Albert Lea, Minn.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bourke (Carla) Thurston of Wilton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Gladys; and brothers, Robert, Dean, Landon and Keith Thurston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church or St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund in her memory.
MUSCATINE — Steven Hostetler, 71, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at Lutheran Living. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Muscatine. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12, 2020, from 3 – 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Steven Kelley Hostetler was born on March 29, 1948, in Plain City, Ohio, the son of Abe and Mary (Gingerich) Hostetler. Steven was united in marriage to Colette Nafziger on June 7, 1980, in Minneapolis, Minn. The couple later divorced. Steven received his Education Specialist degree from James Madison University Harrisonburg, Va., and was a School Psychologist for the Mississippi Bend AEA in Iowa. He worked with families to provide the best educational experience for their children. He was a part of the Mennonite Central Committee PAX program serving in Mexico from 1968-1970. Steven was a longtime member of First Mennonite Church of Iowa City and associated with the Congregational United Church of Christ of Iowa City. He was a member of the Association of School Psychologists.
Steven was involved in music and drama in high school and college. He enjoyed being a member of a men's quartet in college. His greatest pleasure in life was sitting and telling stories with friends.
Steven is survived by his children; Jessica (Justin Roth) Hostetler of Harrisonburg, Va., and Jordan Hostetler of Des Moines; grandson, Tobin; and brother, John (Rose) Hostetler of Plain City, Ohio.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Cheryl Ann; and a brother-in-infancy, Michael.
Betty Lorraine (Crow) Maisenbach, the daughter of Howard Wilson Crow and Alvina Minnie (Massey) Crow, was born on January 11, 1927, in Muscatine. Iowa. She received her education in Muscatine graduating from Muscatine High School in 1944.
Betty was baptized and confirmed on February 11, 1939, and was currently a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona.
Betty married Morris Peter Maisenbach on August 28, 1947. Three children were born out of their union: Melodie, Peter and Kevin. In 1959, after living in Columbus Junction, Bennett and Tipton, Iowa, they moved to Rock Island, Illinois.
Through the years Betty served as a teacher's aide, worked for Al Boyles Realty in Rock Island, sang in many church choirs, volunteered in many churches and served as a leader in the Steven Ministries program. She was involved with Girl Scouts and with the Parent Teacher Association. She also enjoyed cooking and eating Chinese food and participating in her Pegasus Investment Club.
In retirement, Betty and Peter spent their summers in Rock Island and their winters in Green Valley, Arizona. Most recently, Betty lived at Emerald Grove Assisted Living in Mesa, Arizona. It was here that she died on January 23, 2020, at the age of 93.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Crow; and a sister, DeAun Goss.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melodie Ullman and her husband, Joe, of Mesa Arizona; her sons, Peter and his wife, Diane of Spencer, Iowa, and Kevin of Green Valley Arizona; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
A committal will take place in Rock Island, Illinois, at a later date.

MUSCATINE — Malinda “Linda” M. Paintin, 74, of Muscatine, Iowa, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, at Pearl Valley Rehab in Muscatine. Malinda was born in Davenport, Iowa, on February 19, 1945, to Henry and Wilma (Campbell) Gruemmer.
Linda graduated from Wilton High School in 1964 and from the Davenport Barber College.
She was a barber for 30 years. Linda was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wilton.
Linda is survived by her children, Molly Cantrell-Kraig, Tyler Paintin and Mitchell Paintin; five grandchildren; and siblings, Patsy Mullican, Bruce Gruemmer and Joe Gruemmer.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Bebe Stotler; and brother, Hank Gruemmer.
