This photograph of the Cedar Rapids Oil Company at 400 E. Second St. in Muscatine was taken Jan. 20, 1920. A billboard on the fence reads "Cedar Rapids Oil Co. peerless gasoline and gem oil, lubricatings, oil greases and call again phone 2437." A round sign in front of the building indicates the price per gallon at 23 cents. The number 23 also appears on the light globe above the gas pump. The building behind the station advertises Ed Dora and Sons Express, Transfer, Livery, and Taxi.

Editor’s note: “Photographic Memories” is a series produced in cooperation with the Musser Public Library, and featuring photos from library’s extensive collection of historic photos. The series runs on alternating Saturdays with the Muscatine Art Center’s “Muscatine Memories.” For more information about the library's photo collections or to purchase photo, email: refmus@muscatineiowa.gov, or call 563-263-3065.
