MUSCATINE, Iowa — Marching band season is complete at Muscatine High School, and the band went out on a high note.

The marching band's last performance of the year was Oct. 23 at the last regular season Muskie football home game. The last performance was the end of an exciting month for the marching band.

On Oct. 10, MHS hosted the Muskie Marching Band Invitational where 14 bands performed and awards were presented for all placements.

As a host, however, MHS was not eligible for any awards.

Director of Bands Jeff Heid called the event a huge success, saying that there were more bands this year than ever before.

Results from the invitational can be found at

On the following weekend of Oct. 17, the Muskie Marching Band performed at the IHSMA State Marching Festival in Muscatine. At this event, schools perform for a I-V rating, I being the highest rating.

For the 11th consecutive year, Muscatine received a Division I rating.

All but three schools that competed also received Division I ratings including Louisa-Muscatine, West Liberty, Wapello and Wilton.

Results from the State Marching Band Festival can be found here.
