As I was looking for something to write about today this headline caught my eye: “Senate ready for symbolic showdown on tax cuts”.
Just reading the headline made my blood boil.
According to economists and the Fed, we could be careening toward another recession and what is the U.S. Legislature doing? Holding symbolic votes. Posturing. NOTHING!
Nothing is what Congress is particularly good at doing. They’ve pretty much perfected the art of nothing. In the past year or two I’ve heard both Democrats and Republicans lament the fact that the U.S. is losing its luster and standing in the world.
It has gotten to the point where I equate all of these idiots to Nero. If these were my employees they would have been fired long ago.
Oh wait — they are my employees — some of them anyway. They’re your employees too. We could do something about their ineffectiveness and inactivity. We could vote them all out of office, but I’m not sure the people waiting in the wings would be any better.
We could demand more from our leaders, but that would require all of us taking a stand and an interest in our politics and actually communicating with our members of Congress.
I’ve never been to Washington, D.C. and I’m not sure I want to go. I’m afraid there’s something in the air or water that takes a sane, reasonable person and makes them nuts.
Yes, I’m sure you can tell by now that our current political landscape makes me angry. But unlike a lot of people who blame one party or another, I think they are all to blame. I’m sure I’ve written about that before. Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only one.
