CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police are investigating allegations that a substitute teacher at an elementary school was touching himself inappropriately in a classroom this month while students were present
According to the Chicago Tribune, the police department said the investigation into the alleged Nov. 16 incident at Walt Disney Magnet School is continuing. The paper did not identify the man because he has not been charged with a crime.
Parents of students in the classroom and parents of all the children at the 1,500-student school were notified of the allegations by the principal of the school in the Uptown neighborhood on the city's North Side. .
“Several students reported that a substitute teacher, the individual’s first time in the school, behaved inappropriately while teaching. I want to assure you that we are aware of this information, and we immediately reported the information to the district as soon as we became aware," Disney principal Paul Riskus wrote to parents. "The substitute has been blocked from working in our school and is under investigation.”
The Chicago Public School's Office of the Inspector General said its sexual allegations unit is conducting an investigation. A school district spokesperson said the teacher is barred from all schools during the investigation.
