It’s always kind of crazy when something that’s been around for so long gives its final bow, especially when that thing has been such a staple part of your life. I was born in 1995, and only a little over a year later, a little show called “Arthur” would premiere on PBS Kids.
For the younger generation, education isn’t just beneficial or a tool for them to use to get a job later down the line. For some, it can be life-changing and even life-saving, and for others, school may be their only safe space.
The other week, I went to see “Spiderman: No Way Home” with my dad and younger brother. I’m not super into the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’ve seen a few movies here and there, but I’m not hardcore into it like others are. But with this movie, I knew I really wanted to give it a watch …

The NFL’s team owners, a band of billionaire brothers, are getting nervous as the St. Louis lawsuit over the Rams’ relocation forces them to make some very uncomfortable decisions on financial disclosure. Ben Frederickson joins Tod Robberson to discuss the issue. Video by Chris Drury/Post-Dispatch
A couple weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to the movie theater with my parents and younger cousin. As nice as it’s been watching movies at home, I can’t deny that I missed going to an actual theater. Since I was already vaccinated and still planned on wearing a mask, I decided that the…
With it now being October, we’ve officially entered the “holiday season.” Whether it’s for treats, a big holiday dinner, costumes, decorations or gifts, I’m sure we’re all going to become pretty familiar with our local supermarkets and malls over the next few weeks.
This week is the 20th anniversary of 9/11, a notable anniversary for sure. I was only 6 years old on that day, so I don’t remember the actual event at all. For people my age and younger, it can be hard to even imagine what it was like for the people who do remember -- for those who witnessed…

Growing up, my family never went to the Muscatine County Fair. That’s not to say we wouldn’t sometimes go to fair-like places.
July 7 is a ordinary day for most. Not very special or noteworthy, although in Japan it’s apparently the start of the Star Festival, also known as Tanabata. But for me, it’s always been my birthday, and for this year specifically, it’s my 26th birthday.
Last Sunday, Tulsa World reporter Corey Jones showed that 18 people died in 15 OHP pursuits in the past five years, but that none of the chased drivers were suspected of violent crimes when the pursuit began, the editorial says.
MUSCATINE -- Between the fireworks tents in the Hy-Vee and Muscatine Mall parking lots and the occasional booms I’ve been hearing outside my apartment at night, the season for fireworks is in full swing. Those booms will increase as we get closer to the Fourth of July.
It really is hard to believe how far we’ve come.
People just aren’t getting it.
According to the 2019 census, Muscatine County has an Asian population of less than 400. But while Asian-Americans may be a minority in our county, I’d say the Muscatine community has done a decent job of making them feel included.
A lot of people, my dad included, like to say that technology is great… but only when it works.
MUSCATINE – Now, I don’t want to say anything to jinx us ... but I think spring may be just around the corner.
Well … it’s been an interesting first week of the year, hasn’t it?
At the end of this week, it will be the start of 2021, and like many other people, I’m more than happy to kick 2020 to the curb. It's an understatement to say this year was awful, and I’m sure we’re all hoping that 2021 will be better.
It isn’t always easy to take the extra time or effort to make it to a certain event, especially if you’re an introvert or if the weather is chilly. But sometimes, it really is worth it.
A little over a year ago, I began my job as the newest reporter for the Muscatine Journal. …I think it’s safe to say that this has been a VERY interesting first year on the job.
In 2016, the year I turned 21, I was able to vote for the first time.
