Muskie girls start strong: The Muscatine girls bowling team got its season started off on the right foot with a win at Clinton Saturday. The Muskies won with a total score of 2,917.
Falcons place second: The Louisa-Muscatine wrestling team had another strong outing at the Jeremy Fulk Classic on Saturday. The Falcons had three wrestlers place first and placed second as a team with 171 points.
Hunter Connor won his championship match in dominating fashion with a pin of Mid-Prairie's Cory Allen in 33 seconds while both Max Mashek and Chase Kruse earned gold medals by pinning their opponents.
Austin Cook, Marcos Moedano, Cody Calvelage and Jacob Schutterle all placed second in their respective weight classes.
Comets get pair of top finishes: Bryce and Will Esmoil led West Liberty to a seventh place finish at the Keith Young Invitational on Saturday. Will defeated Denver's Gabriel Lewis in a 6-0 decision in the championship match of the 132-pound weight class while defending state champion Bryce pinned Waverly-Shell Rock's Brayden Wolf in one minute, 44 seconds to earn a gold medal.
Joe Kelly was the Comets lone second place finisher, and three others placed inside the top five.
Kadel leads Columbus-Junction: Jarod Kadel was the lone Wildcat to make it on the podium at the loaded Cliff Keen Invitational Saturday. He was defeated by Fort Dodge's Drake Ayala in the championship match of the 106-pound weight class in a major decision, 12-4. The Wildcats placed seventh as a team with 73.5 points.
