At stake: A trip to next Saturday's state swimming meet, held at the Marshalltown Community Y pool.

Who qualifies? The fastest 24 individuals and relay teams from district competition qualify for the state meet.

Last season’s Muscatine state qualifiers: Muscatine qualified five swimmers in four events to last season at a district meet at the Linn-Mar High School Aquatic Center. Senior Alex Walton won the 200 individual medley in 1 minute, 53.11 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 49.76 seconds to qualify. He was joined by Hunter Peterson, Matt Sovers and Ian Hilbrant in the 200 medley relay, where the Muskies finished sixth in 1:41.23 at Linn-Mar to post the 17th-best time in the state and a berth to Marshalltown. Finally, the 400 freestyle relay team of Walton, Peterson, Hilbrant and John Wieskamp finished fourth in 3:22.19, which was the 15th-best time in the state, to qualify for the state meet.
