Who qualifies? The first place swimmers and relays from each regional plus the next 18 best performances from all regional meets will qualify for the state swimming meet.
Last season’s Muscatine state qualifiers: Muscatine qualified five swimmers in seven events to last season's state meet in Marshalltown, where the Muskies would finish 11th as a team with 86 points. Regan Kilburn, Sarah Schemmel and Alexis Hagen all qualified in four events at last season's regional meet in Clinton. Schemmel, who was named the Mississippi Athletic Conference/regional swimming of the year at the regional meet as a sophomore, won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly at the regional meet. She would finish sixth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 butterfly at the state meet. Schemmel, Kilburn, a senior, and Hagen, a sophomore, teamed with senior Annabel Graettinger to qualify for state in the 200 medley relay, while the same trio swam with Tori Roth, another sophomore, to qualify in the 400 freestyle relay. Additionally, Hagen qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle as an individual and Roth earned a berth in the 200 individual medley.
