MUSCATINE, Iowa — The Muscatine High School boys swimming team earned All-Mississippi Athletic Conference honors in eight events Monday, led by a pair of first-team recognitions for senior Alex Walton.

The teams are determined based on performance at the regional meet.

Walton, who won his sixth and seventh career state titles at Saturday’s state meet to tie the mark for the most in program history, grabbed first-team All-MAC honors in the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke.

His 1 minute, 53.11 second-time in the 200 IM was the best in the conference, as was his 49.76 second-time in the 100 backstroke.

Junior Ian Hilbrandt earned the Muskies’ only second-team All-MAC selection with his time of 5:15.91 in the 500 freestyle.

Muscatine had swimmers or relay teams earn honorable mention honors, including the 200 medley relay team of Walton, Matt Sovers, Hunter Petersen and Ian Hilbrandt, the 400 freestyle relay team of Walton, Petersen, Hilbrandt and John Wieskamp, James Wood (200 freestyle), Reese Kilburn (100 butterfly), Wieskamp (100 freestyle) and Rudy Calderon (500 freestyle).

Pleasant Valley’s Nick Staver was named as the MAC Swimmer of the Year while Bettendorf’s Mike Ahrens was named the Coach of the Year.
