MUSCATINE, Iowa – After a short stay atop the Midwest Men’s Division I Rugby Conference standings, the Palmer College RFC slipped back to second place after a 36-17 spanking at the hands of the Pearl City Black Bears last Saturday at the Muscatine High School pitch.

Pearl City controlled the action with six tries (five points each) and three two-point conversions. The Muscatine team also missed several three-point penalty kicks.

Scoring tries for the Black Bears were Ben McGee, Keiki Misepeka (2), Ali Miller, Ken Knutson and Ryan Buhman. Bayden Morrey had two conversions and Andrew Suniula one.

Saturday’s game completed the fall home season for the Black Bears, who travel to Minneapolis on Saturday, Nov. 1, to take on the Metropolis RFC. The Division I playoffs get under way on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Rules meeting Nov. 1

COLUMBUS JCT., Iowa – Rules meetings for the various classes in the 2009 season at CJ Speedway will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The meetings will begin at noon at the Wapello ambulance shed, located on Highway 61 in Wapello.

The tentative schedule will have 4-cylinder drivers meeting at noon, hobby stocks at 1, IMCA stock cars at 2 p.m., modified lights at 3, and IMCA and USRA modifieds at 4 p.m.

These classes will allow some modifieds from West Liberty and IMCA modifieds from Burlington to race on Friday night at the Columbus Junction track, according to new promoters Don and Sharon Wood and Brian and Amanda Tipps.

Wrestling signup set

LETTS, Iowa – The Louisa-Muscatine Junior Wrestling Club will hold signup from     6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3.

Signup for L-M students in grades kindergarten through 8th grade will be at the high school wrestling room. There is a $25 fee.
